Circus Show coming to Over the Ledge

OVER THE LEDGE THEATRE COMPANY
Circus Comes To Grand Ledge – ‘Elephant’s Graveyard’ Show

7/6-16 - Elephant's Graveyard is the true tale of the tragic collision of a struggling circus and a tiny town which resulted in death of an elephant. Set in 1916, the play combines historical fact and legend, exploring the deep-seated American craving for spectacle, violence, and revenge. Elephant's Graveyard examines the range of relationships between humanity and animals, from deep bonds of lifelong affection and friendship to the attitude that animals are disposable.  It also walks us through small town America with none other than Sparks’s travelling circus. We see the hardships of World War I, the rough life of circus performers, the everyday life of town’s people in America’s country side, and the deep and sometimes hard to understand connection between humans and animals. This play is unique due to the fact that it is a series of monologues reflecting on a tragic event.

Director Gabe Francisco has put together a talented cast of stage veterans and new comers that include: Jesse Frawley, Justin Brewer, Ndegwa McCloud, Jim Coyer, Emilio Pido, Ian Henretty, Kylie Densmore, Ja’nay Duncan, Ann Carlson, Sarah Hoogstraten, Hannah Feuka, Maria George, and Hunter Folleth.
Dates:  July 6-9 & 13-16, 2017.
Times: Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m.

Prices: $10 (regular) $8 (seniors) $6 (students).
Location: 100 Fitzgerald Park Dr., Grand Ledge, MI.

Acting Up Library Kids' Show

6/27/2017

Acting Up Theatre Company proudly presents "Oh Brother Builders”

...written by Chad Patterson (former Lansing-ite and Theatre Guy Extraordinaire). Acting Up has been entertaining audiences for years with their high energy interactive theatrical shows at Michigan libraries!  This is a fun, 2-man show, with playwright Chad playing multiple roles.

2pm TODAY, June 27 at the Lansing Downtown Library branch.
August 2 they will be in South Lansing and Haslett
http://www.actingup.biz/calendar.html

Do you have a big project? A Little Project? Or just something in between? Well, Oh Brother Builders has got you covered. Well at least one of them does anyway. Billy Builder has done nothing his whole life but prepare, design and build things for his company. He started out with Legos moved onto Minecraft and now is trying his hand at the real thing, actually building real life things for real life customers. Buddy on the other hand is more of a bumbler than a builder he spends most of his time folding blueprints into paper airplanes, catching Poke-mon on the worksites and doesn't plan for anything except his next fun adventure. Billy wants Buddy to take things more seriously and Buddy thinks that Billy would enjoy projects more if he learned to have fun.

The Brothers are given a rush order by the pickiest man in town Mr. Finicky; not only is that his name but it also describes him. He has just gotten and new Bird book from the Library and wishes to have two birdhouses built so that he can attract all of the birds in his book, but he wants these birdhouses right away. So the pressure of this impossible deadline and the fact that Billy is serious and Buddy just messes around nearly destroys their brotherly relationship.

If that was not bad enough there is a slimy bad guy builder named "Jack Hammer" who is competing with the brothers for business and he catches wind of the rush order and attempts to steal their customer. The brothers must learn to work together, get along and find each other's strengths to finish the project for Mr.Finicky and to keep the evil "Jack Hammer" away from their customers and their plans. Billy learns about relaxing and having fun from Buddy and Buddy learns about having a plan and how hard work pays off from Billy; in the end the both of them learn great lessons and find that HARD WORK, TEAMWORK and FUN will help BUILD A BETTER WORLD!

Over the Ledge

We had a great time at Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog: A Staged Reading! at Over the Ledge Theatre. It was a two-day fund-raiser and is sadly OVER, so you missed a rollicking evening of horrible fun, starring the inimitable Josh Martin and the winsome Anne Carlson - backed up by a festive group of performers under the direction of Kate Snyder.

Be sure to catch one of Over the Ledge’s shows this summer. The Barn is picturesque, and the park is beautiful, and you can byob - and bring refreshments into the audience.

Thespies

6/18/2017

The Thespies; those LSJ theatre awards, are an impossibly flawed process, and I keep participating as a judge only because I think it does a LITTLE less harm than good, bringing attention to live theatre in general. My bottom line is that all winners were deserving — but a LOT of others were equally deserving.

Mark and I got called in a few years ago when longtime judges, the Milsteins, were ill and had missed over half the shows, and someone suggested us who knew we’d seen most shows because of the GLUT. Thespies began looooong ago when there was a team of objective and knowledgeable theatre reviewers working for the State Journal. No more.

Kudos to Mike Hughes for caring enough to chair the meeting, feed us subs and force votes, and write the article -- even though he, himself, sees almost none of the shows and has little to do with choosing judges or methods. No one is really “in charge” — and it’s very tough to find anyone qualified-but-NOT-participating-in-shows who’s willing/able to see/judge 50-something shows.

So congratulations to EVERYbody who participated in and/or attended shows this past season. Long live live theatre!
