THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE at Owosso Community Players

1/28/2014

 - featuring "Lansing's" Steve Shelton, Bob Murrell and Kate (Tykocki) Snyder (I'm just saying that because I know these fine performers! From everything else I've seen at Owosso, the other folks should be great, too!)

This is an absolutely WONDERFUL musical. Anyone who is still crying over missing the fantastic production of it at Over the Ledge a couple summer's ago should not miss this one. Owosso does a great job, and it's not that far - easy to find:
Studio Theatre 114 W Main St., Owosso, Michigan 48867 (Right next to the restoration-in progress Lebowsky Center.)
Performances:

The Lion in Winter
By James Goldman
January 23 – February 23, 2014
Directed by John Lepard
A collaboration with the MSU Department of Theatre

Uneasy is the head on which the crown lies, and uneasy the truce between a matchless king and queen. This is the legendary story of King Henry II of England, and the battle between his fiercely competitive sons to be chosen next in line for the throne. Add in his banished Queen, the notorious Eleanor of Aquitaine, mother of said sons and equally competitive, and King Louis of France, and two countries find themselves on the brink of bloody war at the whim of a temperamental and power hungry family. This classic tale of deception, manipulation and world dominance will draw you into its irresistible web, and might not let you go without a fight.

Featuring Michael Barbour, Sandra Birch, Andrew Buck, Andrew Head, Katie Maggart, John Manfredi and Blaine Mizer.

This production is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Plante Moran.

Call our box office at (517) 655-7469 for reservations.

Okemos High School presents “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten”

1/22/2014

Performances January 30, 31 & February 1 at 7:30pm and  February 2 at 2:30pm
Okemos High School Theater, 2800 Jolly Road in Okemos
Tickets available online at www.okemosdrama.net or at the door

Okemos High School presents “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten”, a play based on the based on the books by Robert Fulghum, conceived and adapted by Ernest Zulia and music and lyrics by David Caldwell, on January 30, 31 & February 1 at 7:30pm and February 2 at 2:30pm. Tickets are available online at www.okemosdrama.net or at the door ($5 Students and Senior Citizens, $10 Adults).

Based on Robert Fulghum's best-selling books, Kindergarten takes a funny, insightful, heartwarming look at what is profound in everyday life. This tightly woven adaptation has earned standing ovations from Singapore to Prague— from L.A. to D.C. It's an evening of theatrical storytelling in revue format, with monologues, dialogues, and multiple voice narration, enhanced through the use of live piano underscoring, which provides fluidity, charm, and emotional texture, and seven optional original songs.

The delightful stories feature colorful characters such as: a shy little boy who insists on playing the "pig" in his class production of Cinderella and steals the show; a man whose dream of flying carries him high over Los Angeles … in a lawn chair buoyed by surplus weather balloons; a "mother of the bride" who's staged a perfect wedding—until the bowling ball of fate rolls down the aisle; and a modern-day Greek philosopher who finds the meaning of life in a piece of broken mirror from World War II. These stories celebrate our very existence, from the whimsy of childhood to the wisdom of old age.

The talented cast includes Okemos High School students Maya Aronoff, Kevin Corbett, Mikaela Gould, Eddie Mayes, Hannah Romain and DJ Shafer. The show is directed by Mr. Chad DeKatch with Technical Director Mr. Brian Ugorowski and Student Director Skyler Ray. Ben Diaz of Diaz School of Piano provides piano accompaniment and OHS Principal Christine Sermak is the show’s narrator.

Singing Kangaroo Telegram

1/20/2014

My girlfriend lives in Lansing and her birthday is coming up. I am interested in sending her a singing telegram. The problem is that Lansing has little to no singing telegram services. So I am getting creative and trying to connect with theaters in the Lansing area to see if I can find someone to help me out. The person(s) who can help me would need to try and dress up to look like Kangaroos as well.
I am looking for 1-2 people to hire to go to her house and sing our song to her. I am willing to pay whomever would do this for me. If you have any thoughts or know of anyone who would be interested in this gig, please let me know.
Thanks so much,
Jonah Berger

(I checked, and The Costume Shop does not have a kangaroo costume...can anyone be creative? Jane)
