Aura at Ruhala Center

Ruhala Performing Arts Center presents
AURA by Tommy Lee Johnston
Saturday, January 15, 7:30 pm
Directed by Celina Matos Ruhala

Aura is the story of a pure soul, an eccentric man named Mike who can see color auras surrounding others, revealing their vitality—or imminent demise. It is a probing exploration of how Mike copes with knowledge that one should not even possess, let alone share. How does a thoughtful person live from day to day with a gift/curse of soul-wracking sensitivity and mind-numbing thoughtfulness such as this? Earl, a still young and vital senior struggling with his wife's recent death, meets Mike on his daily walk in the park, and Earl's world is forever transformed. Amanda, a young mom, and Dr. Emily Wallace, a psychiatrist to whom Mike turns for help with his unique visions, are both profoundly affected by Mike and are drawn to this kind and peculiar man with unique gifts.

“The plot becomes increasingly fascinating because it challenges conventional ideas surrounding love, reality and mortality.” --The Urban Coaster

“Aura is a swiftly paced and tightly written new play. You’ll not soon forget this story of a pure soul. Tommy Lee Johnston is a talented playwright/actor.” --Chicago Critic

Riverwalk Show Submission Deadline Dec. 31

12/1/2021

Riverwalk Theatre is seeking show submissions from directors for our 2022-2023 season, tentatively called "Hear Me Roar!”

We are very open to all interpretations of this theme but are looking to fill seats and attract large audiences for this upcoming season, so please keep that in mind when submitting a show. Submissions from potential directors will be accepted through Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at: forms.gle/QBUwLya4aWEHctmx5

Please contact Shannon Bowen at [email protected] or Laura Croff at [email protected] if you have questions or difficulty filling out this form.

We are looking to fill a slate that includes five mainstage shows and two to three black box shows.

Once the submission process is complete, the selection committee will meet to discuss scripts and directors. They will identify potential shows for our 34th season and contact directors to hold interviews on Saturday, Jan. 22.

After the slate is finalized at the end of January and we identify availability of rights to produce the titles we select, the suggested season will be presented to the RWT Board of Directors for a vote of approval, with a goal to hold a Season Announcement Event at Riverwalk in late February or early March.

Please pass this information on to anyone not in the Riverwalk Theatre network or those who may not see it who may be interested in submitting a show to our season selection committee. We welcome all ideas that will invite audiences, volunteers and new members to our theatre. Thank you for your consideration!
