"Thrilling! THE WOLVES keeps you on the edge of your seat. The exhilarating brightness of raw adolescence emanates from every scene."
— THE NEW YORK TIMES, SEPTEMBER 12, 2016

Left quad. Right quad. Lunge. A girls indoor soccer team warms up. From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals.

The Wolves is directed by Jacquelyn Marks, who is making her Ixion directing debut. Most recently Ms. Marks was in Ixion's production of Hope and made her Ixion debut in Welcome to the White Room. Her assistant director will be Sadonna Croff. Jacquelyn has also taken over costuming duties for the entire season.

Featured in this production as the Soccer Mom will be award-winning actress Sara Frank-Hepfer. Ms. Hepfer will be joined by a cast of young performers new to the Ixion stage: Sommer Bouknight, Liz Croff, Katherine Hawthorne, Emily Herman, Heidi Kowynia, Katie McArthur, Neysa McGarrity, Rachael Steffens and Sarah Wietecha.

Mock Trial Acting Opportunity

8/10/2019

TRIAL PRACTICE ACTING GIG FALL 2019!
Use your acting and improvisational skills, have fun, help students
and get paid at the same time!

RIVERWALK THEATRE and the MSU College of Law are looking for actors who are interested in playing the plaintiff, the defendant, and the witnesses in mock civil trials for the MSU College of Law Trial Practice Institute.  This semester’s case is a wrongful death case arising from the death of Lindsey Marie Bofus who died tragically when she ran into the street in a panic upon being accosted by a young man who allegedly harassed, intimidated and bullied her at a summer camp they both were attending. There are 4 trials, all using the same case study over 2 days. We are looking for a total of 12 actors --2 actors to play the plaintiff, 2 actors to play the defendant, (one for each trial day) and 8 other actors to play the witnesses for both parties in all 4 trials.   There is a small stipend for the gig – up to $200, depending on the role and the number of trials in which you testify.

Actors would need to be available on all of the following dates:Saturday, October 19, from 9-11 am for a case orientation.
Saturday, November 2, 9 am to 1 pm for interviews with the student lawyers
Saturday, Sunday, November 23 and 24 , 8:30 am – 4 pm for the trials

WITNESS LIST (The number of actors needed for each role is in parentheses.)FOR PLAINTIFF
William Thomas Bofus: PLAINTIFF (2 men, 50’s and up) Mr. Bofus is the grieving father of the decedent, Lindsey Marie Bofus.  He is a nice man, a retired teacher.  The death of his daughter has had a huge impact on Bofus and his wife.  As a former teacher, he can’t understand why the Summer Camp, and especially Ray, did nothing to protect his daughter from Duframe’s misconduct.  He refuses to forgive Duframe for the bullying of his daughter.
H. Tweed, MSW (2 actors, male or female, age 35+):  Tweed treated Lindsey during the weeks of bullying.  S/he is an out going and likeable.  Tweed attended a small college in Michigan and got a bachelors followed by a Masters in Social Work.  This witness should come across as pragmatic therapist—not an ivory tower professorial type.Julie Timmers:  (2 women, early 20’s) A one-time friend of Duframe—She was with Lindsey at the time of her death.  Julie was traumatized by seeing Lindsey killed. Julie is known as the brightest woman in the Summer Camp.  She holds herself out as very intelligent and comes across as such.  She is trustworthy—quite religious and a devout Baptist.  Her demeanor is calm.  While Julie is listed as a Plaintiff’s witness, and was a friend of Lindsey’s and highly sympathetic to her situation, she actually provides support to both sides in the case.
FOR DEFENDANT
Andrew Duframe, DEFENDANT (2 male actors, early 20’s): Duframe is a real “ladies’ man”.  He fancies himself as the guy all the girls want to be with.  He has had success with women.  He is cocky and tends to think of himself as humorous.  He wants to go into business and eventually lead a Forbes 500 firm.   He is frightened at the prospect that this case will ruin his career.  He can be seen as a potential candidate to fly off the handle and strike a significant other.
J. McTavish, MD, Psychiatrist (2 male or female actors, 40’s and up):  An ivory tower type.  Hired to establish that Lindsey over reacted to Duframe’s teasing.  A typical expert witness—has an answer ready for any question.  Will fight and disagree with the attorneys for the Plaintiff while on the stand.  A bit short tempered.  Arrogant.  Never treated Lindsey.
Bill Johnson: (2 men, early 20’s) Duframe’s buddy. A follower.  In spite of his lack of personal knowledge of the relationship between Duframe and Lindsey, he willingly bought into Duframe’s version of the events and amplified it on social media.  He is bright, but immature.  Thinks of himself as funny—but no one else does.  He is a devoted friend of Andrew Duframe and will offer testimony that will support Duframe’s defense, but it is also based on assumptions and inferences.
If interested, please contact Tom Ferris at   tjferris49@gmail.com by Friday, September 20.
Please include a brief resume and headshot.

Renegade Info and Acting Opportunity

The RENEGADE THEATRE FESTIVAL is evolving through its 14-year history, starting in East Lansing, moving to Old Town, involving lots of independent theatres, trying out multiple separate venues, and now moving back to Old Town and downsized into a cozy but innovative experience focusing on New Original Works.
This weekend is all the “runners-up” of the 250 scripts considered from all over the country — and they are all at the Quaker Meeting House at the north end of Old Town 1400 Turner Street. Next weekend is the three “winners” at Urban Beat (1213 Turner Street) — which will also offer food and “adult beverages.” 7pm one-act winner “Came for Me"; 8:15 pm 10-minute winner “There’s a New Life Coming"; 9pm full length winner “Room Number.” — and at 10:30 the exciting, fresh result of the RENEGADE RUCKUS (see below).

The Festival is free of charge, with donation buckets available; come mingle with your theatre cronies at this interesting theatrical event! Note: next weekend, the three winning shows will each be repeated Thursday/Friday/Saturday — so if you see them Thursday or Friday, on Saturday (8/17) you can attend the Curtainless Theatre’s unique Shakespeare concoction “The Play’s the Thing” at 7pm at Riverwalk Theatre, and still make it to Urban Beat for the results of the RUCKUS.

Tonight we enjoyed the “10 Minute Plays Goup 1,” and of those four, especially enjoyed Renegade organizers Chad Badgero and Melissa Kaplan in “Breaking Down Walls.”

And we were WOWED by the surprising, funny, multi-layered, unpredictable “Playing for Real” by Ron Asher of Seattle WA. An excellent cast of LCC actors, including Connor and Quinn Kelly and Ed Heldt… I wish there were programs or a sign with all actors’ names; they all did a great job on this wonderful, weird script. Theatre devotee Holly came back to see it a second time, armed with a “Tony” award (the tiger figurine, I think) to present to the cast and director Steve Lee.Renegade continues Saturday night, and next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Ruckus still needs actors
Jeff Croff is still looking for performers or writers to participate in the 24-hour Renegade Ruckus. He's got room for two more writers (I asked Jeff tonight and I think he may have got those writers; but you can ask him) and still can use a few more PERFORMERS. This will be a challenge and a true theatre adventure for you brave, talented actors out there!
The Ruckus is the addition made to last year's Renegade Theatre Festival which features a 24 hour whirlwind of play writing, rehearsing and performing. Jeff will randomly assign performers to teams. Each team will receive a randomly assigned 10 minute script at 11 am and will be expected to be off book and ready to go Saturday night. Prompts will be given to writers August 16th at approximately 10:30 pm in Urban Beat and the performances will begin August 17th at 10:30 pm in Urban Beat.
If you are would like to participate in the Ruckus, please contact Ixion Artistic Director jeff croff via email ixionensemble@gmail.com
