Williamston Theatre Performance Project for Middle School and High School Students

12/31/2013

Teacher: WT Actor Aral Gribble
Dates:  Mondays, January 6 – March 3, 2014. No class on January 20. Additional mandatory final dress rehearsal on Sunday, March 2; 5-9pm.
Time:  6pm to 8:30pm
Cost:  $175
Ages:  11-18
Class size:  minimum 6, maximum 20
The students will use the fundamentals of acting as well as improvisation and theatre games to create a piece of theatre for performance. This will provide the student with an invaluable performance experience. It will also reinforce the following aspects of theatre: auditioning, theatre games, improvisation, acting technique, scene study and character development. Additionally, the students will be involved in various technical elements of a theatrical production including costuming and props. The class will take a play (material will be chosen to suit the students) from the page and go thru all stages of production in preparation for the final public performance. There will be one public performance on March 3rd at 7:30pm.

Aral Gribble is a local professional actor who studied theatre performances at the University of Michigan and has been gracing the stages of Southeast and Mid-Michigan for almost 15 years. Aral has been seen on Williamston Theatre’s stage in The Woman in Black, boom, Dead Man’s Shoes, An Infinite Ache, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Hate Mail, Fully Committed and Every Christmas Story Ever Told. He will be appearing on stage elsewhere in the state at Tipping Point Theatre and Performance Network later on this season. Along with performing, Aral has worked as a drama instructor and director for youth organizations all across Michigan including Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit, The Phoenix Players, Young Actor’s Guild, Young People’s Theatre, Ypsilanti Youth Theatre, Ann Arbor Recreation and Education, Cristo Rey Community Center, and the Children’s Theatre Network.

All classes held at the Williamston Theatre, 122 S. Putnam St in downtown Williamston.

I hope you've missed the GLUT a little... haha... and do NOT miss TWELVE ANGRY MEN which opens at Riverwalk January 9.  (see attached Ripples.)

12/13-14     8:00PM - Marvin's Room and Lone Star

12/10/2013

12/13-14     8:00PM - Marvin's Room and Lone Star, Directed by Andy Callis -  Free - LCC's Black Box Theatre, performing at Gannon Building,  on Grand Ave., Room 168 ... can't find a press release... internet plagiarism follows:

Marvin's Room, written by Scott McPherson concerns two sisters, Bessie, their father's saintly caretaker who has leukemia, and Lee, a wisecracking, psychologically unstable free spirit who has not helped with the caretaking. It is based upon McPherson's experiences with older relatives who lived in Florida. McPherson cared for his partner, cartoonist and activist Daniel Sotomayor, who died from AIDS. His experiences living in the darkest days of the AIDS epidemic influenced his writing.  McPherson himself died in 1992 of AIDS at age 33.

Lone Star by James McLure - In the cluttered backyard of a small-town Texas bar, Roy, a brawny, macho type who had once been a local high-school hero, is back in town after a hitch in Vietnam and trying to reestablish his position in the community. Joined by his younger brother, Ray (who worships him), Roy sets about consuming a case of beer while regaling Ray with tales of his military and amorous exploits. Apparently Roy cherishes three things above all; his country, his sexy young wife, and his 1959 pink Thunderbird. With the arrival of Cletis, the fatuous, newlywed son of the local hardware store owner, the underpinnings of Roy's world begin to collapse…the high good humor of the play never lapses.

The position involves helping me in rehab gym. Training is provided.
