Lansing Community Theatre Database is back!

6/29/2019

Yaaaaaay - the long awaited re-do of Matt Ottinger’s wonderful LANSING COMMUNITY THEATRE DATABASE, previously banished from the Wiki-whatever web location is now baaaaaack at  lansingtheatre.org.  If you haven’t explored it before — go there — “search” yourself… have fun! Settle arguments… WHO was in that show…..?

Matt advises:
“Three things worth mentioning:
Nothing from the recent season is in yet.  I'll be working on that over the summer.
I have a few major additions I plan to make to the site, which I'll be telling people about later this summer.
And finally, the only reason this got into a presentable condition is thanks to the tireless work of Joe Dickson.  I can't thank him enough.”
Thanks, Matt and Joe for this theatrical asset!

Ixion Report/Appeal

We've concluded our 2018-19 season and are looking forward to the next. We hope you'll join us on this next journey and help encourage new stories and building a vibrant community.

Last Season:
  • We launched our Golden Ticket program making free tickets available to those members of our community unable to afford the costs. Every performance has a limited number of tickets available to the program. (Contact us via email to learn more.)
  • We continued to formalize our efforts and moved rehearsals to Foster Community Center. This was thanks to the generosity of many friends and patrons via Facebook.
  • We featured three new to Ixion directors: Oralya Garza, Leo Poroshin & Rose Jangmi Cooper. In fact, Hope was Rose's directorial debut.
  • We launched Ixion's Hub membership program
Next Season:
  • All four productions feature scripts written by women. rUSt, our new works slot, shines the spotlight on members of Ixion's Wheel Writers Group (both women and men).
  • We are proud once again to offer an entirely African American cast for The Skeleton Crew. This script is written by Detroit native Dominique Morisseau.
  • We are equally proud to give nine young women a chance to howl in The Wolves. Also featured will be Ixion board member and award-winning actress Sara Frank-Hepfer.
  • We will delve into the pressure cooker of school bullying with Mallery Avidon's queerSpawn. This show will be directed by Todd Heywood, who is making his Ixion directorial debut, but is a familiar directing presence throughout Lansing.
To make this ambitious season a reality, we need your encouragement and support. Please consider either renewing or joining the Hub for a first time. Or if you know of a business interested in building community and supporting the arts pass on our sponsorship information. Attached below are PDFs of the Hub and sponsorship brochures.

Or you can simply mail a donation to Ixion. Please make checks payable to Ixion Ensemble. 2521 Kuerbitz Drive Lansing, MI 48906.

Thank you for your encouragement over the years. We look forward to joining you in telling stories and growing our community.

Chad Patterson's Acting Up Library Shows

6/13/2019

Chad Patterson- formerly of the Lansing Theatre Scene — is now based in Grayling - but offers Summer Library Tour shows for kids with wonderful, witty scripts he writes himself. He will be performing with his talented son!. Find a kid (or be brave, and come “kidless”) to enjoy this fun show. More info at http://actingup.biz- and below are the Lansing area dates/times.

Acting Up Theatre Company proudly presents "Space for Rent" written by Chad Patterson.

Major Tom "Buzz" Aldrin had to give up a career in the Air Force because he found out that he was, of all things, afraid of heights. As a boy he had once dreamed of flying not just in an airplane but maybe even one day in a spacecraft to explore the final frontier. Now he settles for a career in real estate. (When you are afraid of heights, you stay on land.) He hasn't done very well with this either, now he is desperate to at least rent a space in town. Somewhere that with a little imagination could be a great business or even a living area. He has not had any takers however except one... a young boy named Neil, who has been kicked out of his house for the day because Mom is having book club. Neil's Mom tells him to get his head out of his phone and "those games" that there is a universe of stories out there. He looks and looks and finds Major Tom and his space for rent. This excites Neil, he loves space, science fiction and everything that has to do with worlds outside of our own. He rents the space for one day and tells Major Tom that he should spend the day with him and explore "space" with him. Where Major Tom only sees a vacant storefront, Neil recreates scenes from Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy and he even revisits the first moon landing and moonwalk. Both Tom and Neil learn a lot about saying yes to your imagination. Tom learns that he can still reach great heights with his mind and Neil learns that occasionally it's nice to put the technology down and create your own story mode.
