YOUNG PLAYWRIGHT’S FESTIVAL

Join us for the 36th Annual Young Playwright’s Festival—a collaboration between Wharton Center’s Institute for Arts & Creativity and the Michigan State University Department of Theatre.

Twelve Michigan high school students wrote theatrical monologues that were performed and filmed by MSU Department of Theatre students.  (And I, your GLUT Lady Jane, long-ago grad of MSU, perform one of the monologues that required “maturity.”) This year’s work is a stunning display of creative writing and acting, giving voice to area students and providing a platform for their astute observations of life in these times.
Reserve your free ticket to watch the monologues at any time from June 21-27, 2021. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/young-playwrights-festival-tickets-158499485227

CONTENT WARNING: Some of the works featured in this year’s Young Playwright’s Festival discuss topics and have language that may be unsuitable for younger viewers. — (My monologue, regarding birthdays and Pearl Harbor, includes no “unsuitable language”.)

Sponsored by MSU Federal Credit Union; Jackson National Life Insurance Company; University Outreach and Engagement; and Wharton Center Inner Circle.

Ixion Director Mentors

Ixion Seeking Director Mentors for May, 2022 Slot

While we're still finalizing what Ixion's 21-22 season will look like, we do know that we will need some director mentors for the final slot of the season. We will once again be doing a collection of short plays around a theme in May of '22. Since this year's collaboration between new directors and mentors seemed to work well, we would like to continue the same process.

Mentor directors must have directed for Ixion or Icarus Falling before or have directed elsewhere, but worked on multiple Ixion productions. Mentor directors will also be part of this year's short play selection process. Once the plays are chosen, the mentors will select the scripts they will be directing and we will recruit "first time" directors for the other scripts.

If you are interested in being a director mentor, please contact us via email [email protected], or call our artistic director, jeff croff, at 517.775.4246 for more details.
