TONIGHT -  Mark Twain’s All Hallows’ Eve

10/30/2013

A Benefit in Support of Kristine Thatcher
Wednesday, Oct. 30, Riverwalk Theatre
Pre-show reception: 7 p.m.
Show: 7:30 p.m.
Afterglow:  8:30 p.m.

The Kristine Thatcher Fund (KTF) presents “Mark Twain’s All Hallows Eve,” an evening of spine-tingling and humorous tales starring Richard Henzel, Chicago actor and celebrated Mark Twain impersonator, in a new Halloween-themed show created especially for the Lansing event. WLNS news anchor Jane Aldrich will emcee.  Tickets are $25 a person.
All proceeds will go to support local actor/director/playwright Kristine Thatcher in her fight against ovarian cancer. Tickets are available online at ktfund-marktwain.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 1-800-838-3006. AND YOU CAN GET TICKETS AT THE DOOR.  - see you there! (Jane)
Henzel’s “Mark Twain in Person” has been performed in 40 states, Canada, Great Britain and on the Mississippi Riverboat Delta Queen.  “I've been adapting Mark Twain's opus to the lecture format since 1967 and always love to add to my repertoire,” said Henzel, a friend and fan of Thatcher’s since they first met in 1988 when they acted together at Bob Falls' Wisdom Bridge Theatre in Chicago.
“Newly-worked selections for the benefit will include ‘The Skinned Man,’ ‘The Stabbed Man,’ and ‘A Curious Dream,’” Henzel said. “There's a good chance that ‘The Woman with the Golden Arm’ will make an appearance also.”
The afterglow will feature a door prize drawing of a glass sculpture by renowned artist Craig Mitchell Smith who created the piece especially for the benefit.  Two other door prizes to be drawn are a Mitchell Smith glass poppy and two season passes to Riverwalk Theatre.
“What a great opportunity -- a chance to help Kristine, to see Richard Henzel as Mark Twain in a new show, and to win a one-of-a-kind creation by a national talent who just happens to live and work here in Greater Lansing,” said Jerry Mattson, chair of the KTF Steering Committee.
The Kristine Thatcher Fund is a Michigan nonprofit organization of Thatcher’s friends and colleagues to help with her ongoing medical and living expenses.

10/22/2013

The Studio Performing Arts Center is offering a 10-week Adult Acting Class on Saturdays  from 12-1pm starting November 2, 2013.

Taught by P.K. Van Voorhees, Founder and Artistic Director of The Studio, the class will include Improvisational exercises to help with emotional flexibility, Meisner exercises to help with spontaneity and listening/answering/observation skills that help one “stay in the moment”, among other things.

P.K. received her B.F.A. From U of M and studied in NYC with (among others) Freddie Kareman, a Sanford Meisner protégé and acting coach for Francis Ford Coppola.  She has directed locally and in Los Angeles, taught acting at LCC, the BoarsHead Summer Conservatory, the Studio Performing Arts Center and was Director of Theatre for Waverly High School and East Lansing High School.  Her students have signed with agents in Chicago, appeared on television and film, been accepted to collegiate theatre programs and starred locally in community and professional theatres.

(Jane's note: P.K. is also the mother of super-kid-actor Kaleel, "Young Bonnie" in Bonnie and Clyde, "Axel the Elf" in No-Hole Holiday; understudy to Annie.. and more.)

Cost is $120 for 10 weeks and reservations are suggested prior to start of class, as the class size is limited to 12 -- and there are still a limited number of slots available.

Hi everyone,

Thought you might be interested in reading the two print newspaper stories that previewed Salome, and resulted from our joint efforts in last week’s media days.
