Arts or Crafts AND Gaps in the Fossil Record

4/16/2016

OOPS - I’m a little late on this note from Janet Colson:

4/15-16-17 - I know highlighting High School shows isn't typical, but neither is Holt High School's spring play "Arts or Crafts" which runs this Friday and Saturday (April 15 and 16th) at 7:00 and Sunday the 17th at 2:00. This play was written by MSU's Rob Roznowski and a version of it was previously workshopped/performed at MSU. Arts or Crafts at Holt High School is directed by Seth Burk, and includes additional material by the cast.
5780 W Holt Rd, Holt, MI 48842

Also, even though it's a bit of a drive, The Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea Michigan is now showing the World Premiere of "Gaps in the Fossil Record" by Matt Letscher, which I have no doubt will be field-trip worthy. Some of our GLUT and Ripples Community may recognize "Gaps" from the staged reading at Riverwalk Theatre. The play is directed by Guy Sanville and features local actor Mark Colson in a leading role. With previews of the play this week and opening night Friday 22nd, the show runs through May 28th.

"Getting Paid to Talk."

2/1/2015

2/26 - Voice Coaches has been invited by Holt Public Schools Community Education to teach an evening adult education class again soon called "Getting Paid to Talk." We thought the adult actors you work with might be interested in this introduction to Voice Acting.

People from virtually all walks of life are entering voice acting for supplemental or retirement income, or even as a full time career. They’ve been told all their lives they have a pleasant voice, so why not make some money with it?
The voice acting profession is experiencing tremendous growth while at the same time embracing a broadening range of voices. Advances in technology and changes in the way information is presented continue to open new doors for
voice over artists.

On Thursday, February 26, Holt Public Schools Community Education, in conjunction with Voice Coaches, will present Getting Paid To Talk, a single-evening, realistic and entertaining introduction to the world of voice overs. Attendees will learn everything from the basics of getting started, working in the studio, effective demo production methods, and industry pros and cons, to where to look for opportunities in and around their community and how to land the job. They will also have the opportunity to record a mock commercial under the direction of a Voice Coaches producer.

Regardless of motivation, Getting Paid to Talk is a great first step for anyone curious about Voice Acting. Registration at least a week in advance is required to attend, and enrollment is limited to just 25 students. Register by calling 517-694-3411. Class fee is $25.

Some interesting voice over facts:
• Less than 10% of the voice acting jobs available are commercials.
• According to Forbes.com, the average voice actor earns $50,000 to $80,000 a year.
• In most cases, a person’s voice will portray the broadest voice age range well into adulthood.
• An increasing amount of voice over work is done outside of major markets.
• Many voice over artists do a portion of their work from home.
• Professional opportunities for voice actors are expanding dramatically.

Voice Coaches at voicecoaches.com provides industry-leading educational resources, training and professional development to individuals pursuing professional Voice Acting. We are an industry leader in voice over production, voice evaluation, one-on-one training, and demo development, providing services to clients across the United States, Canada and abroad.
Thank you for sharing the press release below with your local acting community.

Pajama Game opens TONIGHT

3/28/2014

OOPS -- these HS shows are getting away from me. Emily is a great performer. Her mom/agent report that promotion has been shaky for this sure to be good show - and now I'm late, too! ANYway...

Emily Hadick was Marcy Park in the "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" in the 2012 production at Grand Ledge (she did the cartwheel) and she was Pepper in RWT's "Annie." Her first big role was Baby June in LCP's "Gypsy."  This is her last production at Holt High School and she has the lead female role of 'Babe' in the show.  She will be majoring in musical theater in college and is wait-listed at Michigan, her dream school.
Holt High School Presents
"The Pajama Game" at the Holt High School Margaret Livensparger Theater5885 Holt Rd, Holt, MI 48842

"The Pajama Game" is a nostalgic trip to the 1950’s - a time of innocent romances, a time of “company spirit," and a time when seven and a half cents actually bought something.

Billed as a "bright, brassy and jubilantly sassy show," the musical Pajama Game won the Tony Award for Best Musical when it opened on Broadway in 1954. Based on the novel 7 1/2 Cents by Richard Bissell, the show tells the story of a union fight in a pajama factory for a seven and a half cent raise, complicated by the superintendent of the factory falling in love with one of the union reps.

11/8-9 - Holt High School Presents, 'The Legend of Robin Hood...sort of'.

11/1/2013

Would you like to hear the legend of Robin Hood?  If your answer is “ I Sherwood,” then hitch up your gauntlets and get ready to laugh.  This hilarious send
up of the Robin Hood story leaves no stone unturned or, at least, tripped over.

You see, it’s a little known fact that the famous English bandit was bit of a klutz.  As a kid he practiced with a bow and violin instead of a bow and
arrow, so naturally to fight the king’s injustices he needed his famous band of women.  Women?  That’s what you get when you send Little John to do the
recruiting!

But just as the ladies are persuaded that after they steal from the rich they have to give the goodies to the poor, Robin is tricked by a rhyming witch and is
taken captive by the evil Sheriff of Nottingham.  At the palace, King John, far from sounding like royalty with his hick accent, holds a festival to trap all of Robin’s
followers.

Sword play and derring-do plus a lot of cheap tricks allow goodness to triumph over evil and Robin Hood to win the hand of the lovely Maid Marian.

Performances are Friday and Saturday November 8 & 9 at 7 pm and Sunday, November 10th at 2 pm at the Margaret Livensparger Theater at Holt High School; 5885 West Holt Road, Holt MI 48842.  Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $8 adults and $6 students/seniors (those 60 and better).
