Storage for Starlight?

1/16/2023

Starlight Theatre needs your help and we're not asking for money!
We have been renting a storage unit for overflow items we have no room for. In the 7 years we have been renting a storage unit, the rent has increased by 40%. They are now asking $139 a month for rent of a 10 X 20 space. That is $1,668 a year down the drain which could be going into our shows. The board and I agree this is not cost effective for Starlight especially since we have had a rough three years financially since Covid hit.

We need free storage space for as many items as you may be able to store. It does not need to be for all of the items, even just a few of them will help.  It can be cold storage.  These are the items needing a home:  a 50's style kitchen table, 3 - 50's style bar stools, 5 or 6 tapestry carpet rolls, 6 - 4' wide white picket fences , 2 sets of bed frames, 2 antique vacuum cleaners, a small refrigerator, a small stove, a rack of military uniforms, an upright wooden antique radio, 2 or 3 50's style chrome chairs, toilet, shelf units, a bar, crates, antique wooden office chair on wheels, small TV, 4 Danish modern dining room chairs, 2 arbors, two stuffed chairs, Ficus trees, end tables and small items such as luggage, a bag of hanging beads, duffle bag, tote of trophies and more that I cannot remember right now. Many are antiques so we do not want to get rid of them.

We are clearing out the storage unit Saturday, January 28th in the afternoon.  We may be able to deliver that day or later.

We are not concerned about how far away the items are stored.  If you can provide us space, we will give you two gift certificates to any of our upcoming shows (to be announced) including dinner and list your name in our program as a donor.  Please email me at mailto:starlightdinnertheatre@yahoo.com if you think you can help. Thank  you! Linda Granger

P.S. STILL reading and sharing scripts trying to find a show for the spring and next season (Fall 2023 - spring 2024).

Acting Like Nothing Is Wrong Film Returns

1/15/2023

“Acting Like Nothing Is Wrong” fascinating documentary on Jim Hoffmaster’s life RETURNS to Studio C near Meridian Mall next weekend!

It screens Friday, Jan. 27 through Thursday, Feb. 2
6:15pm
Director Jane Rosemont will be there for the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday showings.

Jane R hopes "many people who’ve already seen it will want to see it again, and of course those who missed out have no excuse!”

Jane Zussman adds, “This is an intriguing film portrait of former Lansing Actor Jim Hoffmaster (Fagin in Oliver! 2001 and more!) also known as “Kermit” the barfly in Shameless on Showtime. It is funny and sad and oddly universal and entertaining and encouraging. Jane Rosemont’s artistic eye adds charm to a sometimes difficult story. This is a film that will stick with you and I plan to see it a second time. (Also, I’m IN the film, briefly, as one of Jim’s friends from “back in the day”.) It covers some dark details of child abuse/neglect tactfully and would not be inappropriate for young teen kids. It sold out and was voted a “favorite documentary” or some such, at the East Lansing Film Festival.

January Calendar and database info

1/4/2023

2023 starting a little slow for shows. Is it time to clean out memorabilia and maybe unearth some OLD community theatre programs you can send to Matt Ottinger for his wonderful database? (Thanks and kudos to Marvelous Meticulous Matt, and also to Joe Dickson, for helping Matt move his database to a new platform a few years back.)

First check out the site at  http://lansingtheatre.org - Note the handy “search” box at the upper right and search by person's name or by show title. Note that when you search for a show, it will list all the people who have been IN that show… and within in that alphabetical list will be the show title, itself, which will link you to the whole cast/crew on one page.

Send any edits or old programs from Lansing area community theatre shows that are NOT yet on this list to  mailto:ottinger60@gmail.com (Maybe just email Matt a photo of the cast/crew listing page? Or arrange to deliver actual programs, which can be returned if requested.)

Ixion Ensemble is looking for someone interested in learning a bit more about the directing and stage managing process or perhaps just wants to get involved with the weirdness that is Ixion. We are in need of an assistant director/stage manager to work as part of the production team for "Begets: Fall of a High School Ronin".

This person will work directly with the co-directors: Leo Poroshin and jeff croff, plus assist in the running of the show during performances.

Rehearsals for this show begin mid-January and the production goes up March 17, 18, 24 & 25.

Please contact Artistic Director jeff croff via email, ixionensemble@gmail.com, or phone, 517.775.4246, if interested.
