Ixion Ensemble Presents Skeleton Crew by Dominique Morisseau
...November 5, 6, 12 & 13 at 8 PM in their new performance venue 5660 W. Saginaw Hwy. Suite 383 Lansing Mall (the former Tequila Cowboy). Tickets are $15 at the door or online, https://www.onthestage.tickets/show/ixion-ensemble/skeleton-crew-11352. For more information email mailto:ixionensemble@gmail.comor call 517.775.4246.
This show is generously sponsored by Our Daily Work/ Our Daily Lives

Skeleton Crew is the third in Dominique Morisseau's Detroit trilogy. At the start of the Great Recession, one of the last auto stamping plants in Detroit is on shaky ground. Each of the workers have to make choices on how to move forward if their plant goes under. Shanita has to decide how she'll support herself and her unborn child, Faye has to decide how and where she'll live, and Dez has to figure out how to make his ambitious dreams a reality. Power dynamics shift as their manager Reggie is torn between doing right by his work family, and by the red tape in his office.

Skeleton Crew is directed by Ixion Artistic Director jeff croff. It features the talented ensemble of Rose Cooper, Daniel Bonner, Regina Hurd and Pulsar Award winning actor Markitwia Jackson.

"We're thrilled to finally bring this powerful and relevant script to Lansing," observes croff. "Ms. Morisseau's script not only shines a light on Detroit, but also on the struggles and dignity of union workers."

This production was first planned for March of 2020, but was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic.

An alum of East Lansing High School, Samantha is excited to bring the Whiffenpoofs to her hometown with the help of her high school choir director, Jeff English. Play Date: a theatre book club - discusses Pipeline

PEPPERMINT CREEK THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES LIBRARY PARNERSHIP “Play Date: a theatre book club” invites the community to read and discuss timely and powerful play by Detroit playwright

Lansing, MI – Peppermint Creek Theatre Company is proud to be partnering with four local libraries to explore the play Pipeline by world renown Detroit playwright Dominique Morisseau, for an event called “Play Date: a theatre book club”. During the month of October, the community is invited to read the play independently and are then invited to come to any library of their choosing November 1 – 4, 2021 for an evening to discuss the play, hear from a theatre panel, and a performance of a few scenes from the show. Copies of the play can be checked out from any participating library.

“Peppermint Creek has formally added “Community Partnerships” to its season planning structure, in an effort to more fully thread itself into the community and bring its programming to where they are, as opposed to asking them to always come to a theatre,” said Chad Swan-Badgero, Artistic Director of PCTC. “The last 18 months has allowed us to ask ourselves how we can continue to address our mission while bringing a theatrical lens to other community organizations. We are thrilled to be partnering with these four libraries in an effort to show people that theatre can also be read and discussed, not simply performed. And the themes in Pipeline could not be more ripe for community discussion!”

Pipeline tackles two of today’s most pressing issues, race and education. A mother’s hopes for her son clash with an educational system rigged against him in this riveting play by Dominique Morisseau. Nya, an inner-city public high school teacher, is committed to her students but desperate to give her only son Omari opportunities they’ll never have. When a controversial incident at his upstate private school threatens to get him expelled, Nya must confront his rage and her own choices as a parent. But will she be able to reach him before a world beyond her control pulls him away?

“The East Lansing Public Library is honored to partner with the Peppermint Creek Theater Company for “Play Date: A Theater Book Club” featuring the play Pipeline by Dominique Morisseau, " said East Lansing Public Library Director Kristin Shelley. "We are excited to help facilitate this unique opportunity for our community to participate in an interactive experience blending reading, discussion, and theater.”

“Play Date: a theatre book club” is free and open to anyone interested in attending and discussing the play and its themes, regardless of if they’ve read the entire play. A facilitator will be on hand to guide the discussion. Those attending will also hear from a costume and set designer who will talk about the process of creating those elements of a play production. And two scenes from the play will be performed for those attending. No RSVP necessary to attend. Patrons will be asked to remain masked when attending this event, regardless of vaccination status.

Libraries Taking Part:
Nov 1 - East Lansing Public Library (950 Abbot Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823)
Nov 2 – CADL Downtown Lansing Library (401 S Capitol Ave, Lansing, MI 48933)
Nov 3 – Eaton Rapids Area District Library (220 S Main St, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827)
Nov 4 - Fowlerville District Library (130 S Grand Ave, Fowlerville, MI 48836)

"Play Date: a theatre book club", will be offered November 1 – 4, 2021 beginning at 6:30pm each night.. For more information, audiences can visit Peppermint Creek Theatre’s website, www.peppermintcreek.org.

Neurodiverse Theatre Class

10/7/2021

The Friends of Theatre at MSUare excited to be able to offer this exciting 2 session virtual class to launch the return of our "Behind the Scenes" classes at East Lansing Prime Time. We hope to transition to in person classes in the winter if/when COVID comes under better control in our community. But in the meantime, we are especially excited to be able to share MSU Theater Dept's incredible program for creating theater for neurodiverse audiences.

Creating Theatre for the Neurodiverse

Don’t miss this inspiring virtual 2 session class on the challenges and joys of creating theatre for a neurodiverse audience!

Thursdays, October 21 and 28 4-5 p.m.

Cost: $10 (includes both sessions)

East Lansing Prime Time and the Michigan State University Department of Theatre are excited to offer a special Behind the Scenes class*, a chance to learn about theatre for audiences that are neurodiverse. Two one-hour on-line talks will be hosted by Dionne O’Dell, faculty member at the MSU Department of Theatre and Artistic Director of the Sense-Ability Ensemble, a group of theatre students and alums that create innovative, multi-sensory, interactive theatrical performances. Both talks will be followed by a Q and A.

Dionne’s groundbreaking production of Farm! A Musical Experience toured Michigan special education classes for two years. She has since created two more shows and is currently adapting the critically acclaimed children’s book What If Wilhelmina by Joseph Belisle into a musical for children.

In the first class, on October 21, class participants will learn about creating theatre for people who are neurodiverse.

On Thursday, October 28, Dionne will follow up and specifically speak about the new What If Wilhelmina production, with special guests from the creative team. Hear about how a children’s book is adapted into a musical, get a sneak peak of several songs from the production, and learn about future plans for the show.

Enroll for the class by calling East Lansing Prime Time at 517-337-1113. To enroll online, go to and click on the tab in the upper left corner. https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/823/Seniors-Program-Prime-TimeOnce enrolled, class participants will receive the Zoom address and passcode.
*The Behind The Scenes classes at East Lansing Prime Time are organized by the Friends of Theatre at MSU.

GLUT Season Calendar

10/1/2021

The GLUT Calendar Returns

Attached is my best stab at a chronological calendar of the coming Post-COVID theatre season in the Greater Lansing Ubiquitous Theatre - like the one I used to get copied to pass out at the Renegade Theatre Festival. I’m chipping away at posting it on the GLUT website calendars. This is the calendar that most theatre leaders have approved… for now. (You may want to print it out, back to back and fold it into a “brochure”… or not.)

Note that all is “subject to change” and some shows are “in the wings” waiting to be added. So check this website calendars for both shows and auditions! I will try to stay at least two months ahead, and make corrections/additions as I am notified.
