This toned-down version of the popular Broadway hit deals with racism, homosexuality, and other adult themes. In what has been termed "Sesame Street for adults" many of the characters are puppets, whose handlers, dressed in black, are in full view. The musical’s themes hit home for high school seniors about to step out into the world beyond what they’ve always known. What major should they choose next year in college? Will they be able to achieve as much as they want to? What about what their parents want?
“It’s relevant. We want to do shows that are relevant to students’ lives,” said director Jeff Croley. “We’re not here just to entertain but to educate. It’s all about making connections.”
