12/4-6 - Mid Michigan Family Theatre presents CAROL’S CHRISTMAS

12/4/2015

12/4-6 - Mid Michigan Family Theatre presents CAROL’S CHRISTMAS December 4 - 6 with shows at 7:00 p.m. on Friday; at 2:00 and 4:30 on Saturday, and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

About the play: Marley was dead. All the students in Ms. Kosmos’ science class are heartbroken over their deceased guinea pig except Carol Hipplewhite, whose job it was to care for poor Marley.  “He was a RODENT!  Get over it!” declares Carol in a voice as cold as her own heart.  But late that night, the overfed Marley — now a huge guinea pig with his bowl on a chain around his neck — visits Carol to warn her.  “What we do in life, we live within the hereafter!  I’m out there with the dogs that bit, the cats that scratched, and a couple of really nasty hamsters!  Carol, change your ways!”  After foretelling of three spirits who will visit her during the night, Marley disappears.  And you know the rest! Carol’s ghostly visitors come in the form of her first grade teacher, her current school principal, and a fellow math student who could’ve used Carol’s help but never got it.  In an anxious, grasping attempt to make excuses for past behavior — like gluing Herbie Walker to his seat in first grade — Carol begins to open her eyes as the clock ticks around the hours.  Carol will make audiences laugh and even shed a tear as she finds her humanity and the spirit of Christmas, as well.  The ghost of Charles Dickens himself narrates this friendly little seasonal haunting, fitting for all ages!

Here are the notes from the director: Still need

2 males (20-50).
One needs to be thin, the other needs to be built like a farmer and jovial.

Also need another woman (20-50)

and 4-5 children (10-13).  They all need to be able to sing - well.

Please contact Bill Gordon at mmftlansing@gmail.com. Rehearsals will be starting soon.

Based on the Washington Irving classic
Book by Vera Morris. Music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur

Here’s a show alive with action, excitement and dynamic music.  When an inane schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, comes to the farming community of Sleepy Hollow, he brings with him all his worldly possessions as he seeks a well-to-do wife.  He’s sure his dream will come true when he spots the striking Katrina Van Tassel.  Sadly for poor Ichabod, the boisterous Brom Bones is Katrina’s extremely jealous boyfriend.  Matters are complicated even more as the ghostly graveyard is haunted by a host of tense spirits, including the Headless Horseman, the most renowned phantom of all.  When Ichabod proposes marriage to Katrina at a party, he is kicked out by Brom, forcing him to make his way through the graveyard during a raging storm. In the dark, we sense there’s something overshadowing poor Ichabod, aiming to take the poor soul’s life!  This suspenseful musical is filled with a variety of songs that fit the bill:  "A Superstitious Yankee Folk," "Ghost in the Graveyard" and of course, "The Headless Horseman."

Rehearsals for the most part will be Tues-Thurs 6:30-8:30 starting August 18.
Due to the structure of this play, it doesn't lend itself to actors under 10 years old.

Production dates: October 16 – October 25, 2015 with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. Performances will be held at the Happendance Studios.

3/13-22 - Mid-Michigan Family Theatre Presents Alice in Wonderland at  Happendance Studios

2/25/2015

Okemos, MI – February 23, 2015. The folly of the 21st century collides with the madness of Wonderland on March 13 – 22 at Happendance Studios in this rockin’ new musical adaptation that remains fairly faithful to Lewis Carroll’s original tale.

With all of the characters you know and love including the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts, this musical imagines a present-day Alice encountering the Wonderland so many of us treasure with a texting, tweeting, Googling Alice of the modern digital era.

This new adaptation features a contemporary score by the late beloved composer Bill Francouer (known for the children’s musical Oz!) and lyricist Scott DeTurk.

Show times on Fridays are at 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. Ticket prices are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for seniors and children 12 and under. Happendance Studios is located at 3448 Hagadorn Road in Okemos. Please enter  from the east side of the building.

12/2/2014

In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids--probably the most inventively awful kids in history. You won't believe the mayhem - and the fun - when the Herdmans collide with the Christmas story head on!

Leading the cast are Marilyn Wulfekuhler playing the role of Grace Bradley, the mother railroaded into leading the pageant, Destiny Dewey as daughter, Beth, who narrates the story, Jason Tippett as husband Bob, who is recruited to help run the pageant, and Dominick Martinez as Charlie, their son who inadvertently brings the Herdmans to Sunday school while bragging about all the desserts the kids get on a weekly basis.

The show runs December 5 – 14 with shows on Fridays at 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under. The venue is the Schmidt Community Center auditorium which is located at 5825 Wise Road in southwest Lansing.
