The play is set in the small town of Mesalia, Ohio in the weeks leading to Christmas in the 1930s. During a cross-country lecture tour, notoriously outlandish radio personality Sheridan Whiteside slips on the icy steps of the house of the Stanleys, a prominent Ohio family, and insists on recovering in their home during the Christmas holidays. The overbearing, self-centered celebrity soon comes to dominate the lives of everyone in the household. What takes place next is a stage play filled with crazy antics that Entertainment Weekly referred to as, "fresh a send-up as an SNL sketch and [with] an even more inspired plot."
The play features an ensemble cast including Sam Sprague as Sheridan Whiteside, Katie Doyal as Whiteside's spinster assistant Maggie Cutler, Ervin Batka, as local newspaperman Bert Jefferson, JP Miller-Purrenhage and Emma Callis as the Stanleys, Abby Sokolnicki as actress Lorraine Sheldon, Ndegwa McCloud as Dr. Bradley and Emily Brett as nurse Miss Preen.
