The Sea Gull follows the romantic and artistic conflicts between four characters – famous writer Boris Trigorin (Sineh Wurie), ingénue Nina Zarechnaya (Amelia Rogocka) fading actress Irina Arkadina (Deborah Keller), and playwright Konstantin Tréplyev (Joe Dickson). When famed actress Irina visits her family with her young lover Trigorin in tow, they become ensnared in a tragicomic tangle of romance, intrigue and unrequited love. The show’s unforgettable characters reveal the dissatisfaction in their lives. Some desire love. Some desire success and some desire artistic genius, but no one ever seems to obtain happiness. This quintessential Chekhov drama is both comic and tragic, but is sure to appeal to all audiences. The Sea Gull explores emotion, creativity and romantic conflict with the incisive clarity of a doctor and the passionate heart of a poet.
Making his Riverwalk Theatre directorial debut, Alex Freeman has assembled a group of stage veterans to take on this challenging script. Amelia Rogocka, Michael Shalley, Charles Sartorius, Michael Hays, Mark Polzin, Heather Harper, Marie Papciak and Yvonne Gonzales round out the cast.
