Michigan State University’s Department of Theatre launches the 2014 – 2015 season, “Power Plays,” with the World
Premiere production of 60/50 Theatre Project in the Studio 60 Theatre from Sept 18 – 28.
The Department of Theatre joins the yearlong, university-wide initiative at MSU, Project 60/50, meant to commemorate
and explore the 60th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Brown vs. Topeka Board of Education and the 50th
anniversary of the passage and signing into law of the Civil Rights Act. Using these watershed events as a launching pad,
60/50 Theatre Project is written specifically about breakthrough events that happened right here at MSU. From the first
black woman student to the first black athlete; from gay rights to the increase of the international student body; even a
monologue featuring the famous Rock and its painted layers of memories; this “fictional documentary” jumps from one
scene to the next using a diverse ensemble and poignant media to keep the audience engaged in these emotionally-charged
events. Join the conversation!
Performances held in The Studio 60 Theatre at MSU Auditorium from September 18-28.
