Especially, now that she's got the long arm of the law on her tail. Murder, fame and true love get cross-examined in the courtroom of comedy in this fun-filled frolicking French farce. “A Shot In The Dark” runs March 13-23 at Riverwalk Theatre. As a murder is being investigated, the beautifully naughty chambermaid Josefa (Chanae Houska) is the obvious suspect, but the bumbling magistrate Paul Sevigne (Evan Michael Pinsonnault) drives all around him mad by seeing her as plainly innocent. LaBlache (Charlie Kamke), Sevigne’s superior, wants the incident swept under the rug with a quick, scandal-free indictment of the most obvious suspect. Sevigne, however, senses that there’s more to the case, and spends the show pratfalling through interrogations with a series of zany characters including the adulterous banker Benjamin Beaurevers (Mark Mandenberg) and his cunning society dame wife (Rachel Mender). Other cast members include: Rebecca Lauren Mueller, Steve Ledyard and Matthew Lago. This stage production, which was the basis for the 1964 film that led to the Pink Panther movie series, is a classic comedy ‘whodunit’ with a wide range of appeal. Director Dan Pappas puts his own special touch on the project, adding some creative twists to the script and staging sure to delight audiences of all ages. Dates: March 13-16 and 20-23, 2014. Times: Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. Ticket Prices: Bargain Thursdays $10 and $8 for seniors. $14 regular price, $12 for seniors 55+ or students Location: Riverwalk Theatre, 228 Museum Drive, Lansing, MI 48933. The Serpent Lady is a commedia dell’arte fairy tale; in many ways this is a play about the magic of theatre. In our production, the story is told by a group of fairies in collaboration with a troupe of actors whose origins in commedia have adapted and changed over time. Our ensemble draws on a variety of theatrical and literary traditions beyond commedia, including melodrama, Greek tragedy, blason poetry, epic, and myth. At its core, The Serpent Lady is a story about how love can conquer not only death, but immortality. Farruscad and Cherestani must place their faith in each other, a lesson that proves more difficult for Farruscad than for Cherestani.
Casting an ensemble of sixteen women and one man represents an effort to challenge traditional gender roles and to practice resistant reading. Working with a new translation has allowed us to mine the improvisational spirit of the play, and to bring contemporary humor to a piece that inhabits the world of fairy tales: “Once Upon a Time, in a faraway land...” Translated by Daniel Smith and Valentina Denzel Directed by Daniel Smith Performances held in the Studio 60 Theatre in MSU Auditorium from March 18-23. 8 p.m. Friday/Saturday March 14-15 & 21-22 LCC Black Box Theatre - Room 168 Gannon Building 411 N. Grand Ave., Lansing Dylan is the story of the destruction of a life. The mighty talents of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas succumbed to the mightier weight of alcoholism, taking him at age 39. The play follows the poet as he is wooed and feted by American society on several trips to the U.S., struggling with his feeling that his best work is 15 years old, spending every penny he earns from readings at literary societies and universities, and ultimately returning home in a casket. Though undeniably tragic, there is a great deal of humor as the earthy and exquisitely witty poet is portrayed as the complex man he was, with a deeply conflicted marriage to wife Caitlyn, and an appetite for many a mistress. “Dylan parallels humanity’s own self-destructive nature: knowing that our actions will someday lead to our own demise, but not knowing how to live differently, or not caring about the consequences,” said director John Lennox. “The story is also about love: twisted, illogical and perhaps even undeserved love, but love nonetheless. It is a reflection on how we as people betray that love we should have for humanity.” Lennox played the title role in a 1987 production at Western Michigan University. On directing the play now he said, “I see things in it that I couldn't possibly have understood as a 19-year-old actor. As always when someone else plays a role you played you think: "No, do it like this" and sometimes even "Why didn't I do it that way?" So it has been difficult to direct another Dylan and not give line readings. But I lucked out with who I cast – it hasn't been nearly as difficult as I was afraid it was going to be.” Playing the role of Dylan Thomas is Joseph Mull. The cast of LCC students features Kelley McNabb as Caitlyn, Scott Wheeler as Dylan’s friend John Malcolm Brinnen, Ian Henretty as his agent Angus, Katie Dufort as his mistress Meg, Patrick Foster as fellow poet Mattock, and playing multiple roles: Cassie Little, Chelsea-Ann Bonofiglio, Max Donovan, Robert Aultz, and Hunter Folleth. $5 students, $10 adults Available at the door, or in advance M-Th 10am-6pm in Gannon Building Room 132 “The Hole in the Hall” LCC Performing Arts Production Office, 517-483-1488 lcc.edu/showinfo 3/8 Saturday - Don't miss THE EVAN MICHAEL SHOW - with a sneak preview of Riverwalk's upcoming A SHOT IN THE DARK, starring Evan Michael (Pinsonnault) himself! THE GERSHWINS’ PORGY AND BESS is brought to life by Broadway’s best and brightest cast and creative team. “ Every so often a project comes along that is so astonishing that one has to drop everything and just say I’m going to do it. That’s what I felt when I was asked to do The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, ” said Tony Award ® - winning director Diane Paulus.
“The epic sweep of the story, the immense history of the musical itself and the unforgettable Gershwin score, highlighted by ‘Summertime,’ ‘I Got Plenty of Nothing’ and ‘It Ain’t Necessarily So’ make this unquestionably one of the greatest American masterpieces.” Based on DuBose Heyward's novel “Porgy” and the play of the same name, which he co - wrote with his wife Dorothy Heyward, the Broadway revival of THE GERSHWINS’ PORGY AND BESS is a stunning and stirring new staging with a magnificent 23 - piece orchestra. The classic story is set in Charleston’s fabled Catfish Row, where the beautiful Bess struggles to break free from her scandalous past, and the only one who can rescue her is the courageous Porgy. Threatened by her formidable former lover Crown, and the seductive enticements of the colorful troublemaker Sporting Life, Porgy and Bess’ relationship evolves into a deep romance that triumphs as one of theater’s most exhilarating love stories. PORGY AND BESS first premiered at the Colonial Theatre in Boston on September 30, 1935. Broadway performances followed featuring a cast of classically trained African - American singers — a daring and visionary artistic choice at the time. This new adaptation of THE GERSHWINS’ PORGY AND BESS was specifically created for Broadway and features a revised book in a musical theatre format and jazz - oriented musical arrangements.
