What's a French parlor maid to do when she's found naked and unconscious with a gun in her hand, next to the body of her dead lover? Especially, now that she's got the long arm of the law on her tail. Murder, fame and true love get cross-examined in the courtroom of comedy in this fun-filled frolicking French farce. “A Shot In The Dark” runs March 13-23 at Riverwalk Theatre.
As a murder is being investigated, the beautifully naughty chambermaid Josefa (Chanae Houska) is the obvious suspect, but the bumbling magistrate Paul Sevigne (Evan Michael Pinsonnault) drives all around him mad by seeing her as plainly innocent. LaBlache (Charlie Kamke), Sevigne’s superior, wants the incident swept under the rug with a quick, scandal-free indictment of the most obvious suspect. Sevigne, however, senses that there’s more to the case, and spends the show pratfalling through interrogations with a series of zany characters including the adulterous banker Benjamin Beaurevers (Mark Mandenberg) and his cunning society dame wife (Rachel Mender). Other cast members include: Rebecca Lauren Mueller, Steve Ledyard and Matthew Lago.
This stage production, which was the basis for the 1964 film that led to the Pink Panther movie series, is a classic comedy ‘whodunit’ with a wide range of appeal. Director Dan Pappas puts his own special touch on the project, adding some creative twists to the script and staging sure to delight audiences of all ages.
