This weekend is all the “runners-up” of the 250 scripts considered from all over the country — and they are all at the Quaker Meeting House at the north end of Old Town 1400 Turner Street. Next weekend is the three “winners” at Urban Beat (1213 Turner Street) — which will also offer food and “adult beverages.” 7pm one-act winner “Came for Me"; 8:15 pm 10-minute winner “There’s a New Life Coming"; 9pm full length winner “Room Number.” — and at 10:30 the exciting, fresh result of the RENEGADE RUCKUS (see below).
The Festival is free of charge, with donation buckets available; come mingle with your theatre cronies at this interesting theatrical event! Note: next weekend, the three winning shows will each be repeated Thursday/Friday/Saturday — so if you see them Thursday or Friday, on Saturday (8/17) you can attend the Curtainless Theatre’s unique Shakespeare concoction “The Play’s the Thing” at 7pm at Riverwalk Theatre, and still make it to Urban Beat for the results of the RUCKUS.
Tonight we enjoyed the “10 Minute Plays Goup 1,” and of those four, especially enjoyed Renegade organizers Chad Badgero and Melissa Kaplan in “Breaking Down Walls.”
And we were WOWED by the surprising, funny, multi-layered, unpredictable “Playing for Real” by Ron Asher of Seattle WA. An excellent cast of LCC actors, including Connor and Quinn Kelly and Ed Heldt… I wish there were programs or a sign with all actors’ names; they all did a great job on this wonderful, weird script. Theatre devotee Holly came back to see it a second time, armed with a “Tony” award (the tiger figurine, I think) to present to the cast and director Steve Lee.Renegade continues Saturday night, and next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Ruckus still needs actorsJeff Croff is still looking for performers or writers to participate in the 24-hour Renegade Ruckus. He's got room for two more writers (I asked Jeff tonight and I think he may have got those writers; but you can ask him) and still can use a few more PERFORMERS. This will be a challenge and a true theatre adventure for you brave, talented actors out there!
The Ruckus is the addition made to last year's Renegade Theatre Festival which features a 24 hour whirlwind of play writing, rehearsing and performing. Jeff will randomly assign performers to teams. Each team will receive a randomly assigned 10 minute script at 11 am and will be expected to be off book and ready to go Saturday night. Prompts will be given to writers August 16th at approximately 10:30 pm in Urban Beat and the performances will begin August 17th at 10:30 pm in Urban Beat.
If you are would like to participate in the Ruckus, please contact Ixion Artistic Director jeff croff via email [email protected]
