Circus Comes To Grand Ledge – ‘Elephant’s Graveyard’ Show
7/6-16 - Elephant's Graveyard is the true tale of the tragic collision of a struggling circus and a tiny town which resulted in death of an elephant. Set in 1916, the play combines historical fact and legend, exploring the deep-seated American craving for spectacle, violence, and revenge. Elephant's Graveyard examines the range of relationships between humanity and animals, from deep bonds of lifelong affection and friendship to the attitude that animals are disposable. It also walks us through small town America with none other than Sparks’s travelling circus. We see the hardships of World War I, the rough life of circus performers, the everyday life of town’s people in America’s country side, and the deep and sometimes hard to understand connection between humans and animals. This play is unique due to the fact that it is a series of monologues reflecting on a tragic event.
