The Blue Light Players are now taking enrollments in their Spring Musical Theatre Classes. We are pleased to welcome Kait Wilson as an instructor for these classes. Kait holds a degree in Music Performance and was the Music Director for our production of Newsies! She will also be joining us as the Music Director for our upcoming production of Matilda! Kait has an extensive background in both directing and performance, having worked professionally in both capacities. MONDAYS (May 6th – June 17th, no class May 27th) Room 302
5:30pm-7:25pm Youth Musical Theatre Performance (Instructors – Kait Wilson & Helen Hart) $105
Musical Theatre Basics will focus on applying and bringing together the disciplines of singing, acting, and dancing, to create an effective presentation. Each semester, the Musical Theatre class strengthens these elements by selecting a Broadway showtune, interpreting it both musically and dramatically, then teaching the staging and choreography for performance. Our Musical Theatre classes explore a diversity of rehearsal tools and techniques in pursuit of a performance which is both dynamic and authentic.
7:35pm-9:00pm Adult Audition Techniques for Musical Theatre (Instructor – Kait Wilson) $85
This class is designed for adult performers who want to hone their audition skills and learn how to better prepare themselves to land their dream role. Students will learn about audition etiquette, preparing a resume, and each student will work on an audition song and monologue. By the end of this course, each student will have learned how to confidently present themselves and their material in a professional setting and how to choose material appropriate to the type and style of the audition.
TUESDAYS (May 7th – June 11th) Room 303
6:00pm-7:00pm Youth Class Voice, Level 1 (Instructor – Kait Wilson) $60
Group voice will allow the youth performer to learn proper breathing, posture, tone production, intonation, diction, and phrasing. Our instructor will help you gain confidence and consistency in your singing, while preventing damage to young vocal cords. Level 1 is prerequisite for the next level which will focus on aural skills, ear training, and sight singing.
7:05pm-8:30pm Youth Audition Techniques for Musical Theatre, Level 1 (Instructor – Kait Wilson) $85
Find out what it takes to get your dream role! This course is the first in a series of classes to prepare the youth actor for musical theatre auditions. Students will learn about audition etiquette, preparing a resume, and each student will work on an audition song and monologue. By the end of this course, each student will have learned how to confidently present themselves and their material in a professional setting and how to choose material appropriate to the type and style of the audition. Level 1 is a prerequisite for the next level which will continue to build the student’s repertoire of audition selections, while also focusing on appropriate attire, selecting a headshot, and writing a resume.
