Main Stage shows are full productions aimed at a wide audience and have open auditions. Black Box shows are small-cast, simple set, unusual, outside-the-box productions — and are precast by the director.
Please do not submit the same script for both venues and please limit your submissions to no more than three scripts for each venue.
Below is a preliminary breakdown of what the 2015-2016 season may look like, to help you define what dates you are available to direct, as requested on the Season Selection form.
In preparing your proposal(s), complete the appropriate form in its entirety and attach all pertinent information that may assist the Season Selection Committee in making a decision. Forms are available on the website - www.riverwalktheatre.com/submit-a-play
The Committee looks at many factors that include, but are not limited to: the potential for commercial as well as artistic success, production size and cost, and how a play fits into the season. Riverwalk attempts to balance the season by including a variety of shows that may appeal to the entire community: children’s shows, musicals, dramas, comedies, well-known shows, lesser-known shows, classics, avant-garde shows, premieres of new scripts, etc. We are proud to have consistently produced plays that allow for a wide range of actors in terms of gender, age and ethnicity.
Note: due to limited backstage and dressing room space, shows with large casts will present some special production challenges. We expect casts to be accommodated within the existing two dressing rooms and the green room during the run of the production.
Riverwalk has an extensive library of scripts and you are welcome to borrow from this library. If you wish to peruse scripts we do not have, you are responsible for ordering and paying for those scripts. Office Manager, Mike Siracuse, can help you obtain information concerning script availability and royalties.
Stan Gill musical comedy fairy tale scripts are available at www.sproutschildrenstheatre.com. They would be good candidates for the November/December children's show slot - although any children's/family show script will be considered, musical or nonmusical.
Please include one copy of the script with your submission form. We prefer electronic scans of your scripts when possible. Any others will be scanned by our office. The scans will be sent to all members of the selection committee when they are received by the theatre office.
Please mail your proposal(s) by November 28, 2014 to: Riverwalk Theatre
