On Saturday February 23, 2013, Studio 707 Productions will host famed New York talent scout, Peter Sklar in his “Getting Started in the Arts” lecture. The free 90 minute lecture is given by the same producer who shaped such talented young stars as Zachary Ty Bryan (“Brad” Home Improvement), Reese Witherspoon (Sweet Home Alabama, Legally Blonde), Sarah Jessica Parker (HBO’s Sex In The City), Lori Loughlin (NBC’s Full House), Mischa Barton (Fox TV’s The OC), Alison Porter (Curly Sue, Parenthood), and thousands more.
Sklar’s “Getting Started in the Arts” is a wonderful eye-opening and entertaining lecture for parents and teens that gives audiences an inside look at what it takes to be successful in the performing arts industry. Sklar is a nationally known speaker, educator, author, talent scout, and producer with three decades of experience, and has been featured on such programs as E! True Hollywood Story, Donahue, and Good Morning America, etc. In 1984, he founded the famed Beginnings Workshop in upstate New York. His publication, Winning Monologues from the Beginning Workshop, (Samuel French/Baker’s Plays), is a standard text in many high school and college theater departments, as well as a resource for numerous talent agencies and casting directors. In addition to holding a Masters Degree in Education from Harvard University, he studied concert piano at New York’s Julliard School of Music and was a career musician.
Even though the lecture is free to attend, due to limited seating, registration is required. Those interested are advised that absolutely nobody under age 7 will be admitted, with or without a parent. The lecture is especially designed for the benefit of parents as well as tens. Anyone under the age 18 is therefore required to attend with his/her own mother or father.
