Call for actors for this year’s Boo at the Zoo! Be a part of the Gypsy Caravan!
Boo at the Zoo runs for three weekends in October:
October 14-15th
October 21-22nd
October 28-29th
Each day of Boo is split into two volunteer shifts: 11:30am-2:45pm and 2:15-5:30pm. Volunteers are more than welcome to sign-up for one shift or for multiples!
Our Gypsy Caravan is composed of a couple different opportunities for volunteers. Volunteers are asked to remain in character during their shift, helping to create an exciting atmosphere for guests to partake in. Below I have listed the different gypsy roles and a brief description of what that role consists of:
Game Tent: 1-2 gypsies per shift who take tickets and operate our can toss and ring toss games.
Swami: 1-3 gypsies per shift. Two gypsies will help to control the line into the gypsy wagon, and engage visitors while they wait. A third actor will be dressed as our Swami located inside the gypsy wagon, giving guests a brief experience to ask the swami a question.
Dice Game: 1-2 gypsies per shift who take tickets and operate the game.
Obstacle course: 1-2 gypsies per shift. One person to take tickets and manage line, while the other assists in simple obstacle course.
There will be a brief training regarding “staying in character” when they arrive for their shift. Jen, our Events Manager will be the lead on that.
We will be able to provide costumes for our gypsies. We have plenty of costumes for women, or men’s selection is a little more limited but we should be able to accommodate everyone.
All volunteers will be provided lunch whether they work a full day or one shift to say “Thank You” for your hard work and generosity. Parking is also complimentary for volunteers as well.
