I'm "producer" of LEAVING IOWA, and very excited about the show. Two "tried and true" actors, Joe Baumann and Mike Stewart, are always a good bet -- and our two new actresses: Heidi Maas and Micaela Procopio, match the guys' talents. The wonderful collection of "multiple characters" Joe meets on his time-traveling family vacation include my hubby Mark Zussman, as well as Susan Chmurynsky, Marie Papciak, Grace Hinkley, Sierra Olson, Adam Bright, and Justin Brewer. This show is a funny and heart-warming trip, deftly guided by new-to-Riverwalk but very experienced director, Michael.
LEAVING IOWA is a nostalgic tale that paints 1960's Americana in a poignant yet humorous light. The story is a toast to idealism and character -- and a little roast of the classic family road trip. Don Browning (Joseph Baumann), a middle-aged writer, decides to finally take his father's ashes to his childhood home, as requested. The trip brings back memories of childhood vacations with dad, and Don is transported back and forth in time. When Don discovers Grandma's house is now a grocery store, his search for a proper resting place for his father gets more complicated. Ultimately, Don's existential journey leads him to reconcile his past and present at an unpredictable yet perfect final destination.
