Peppermint Creek Theatre produces the Mid-Michigan premiere of modern musical twist on Pride & Prejudice
Peppermint Creek Theatre Company, with license from Theatrical Rights Worldwide, is proud to announce the two week run of I Love You Because. I Love You Because is a modern twist on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, set in New York City. A young, uptight greeting card writer’s life is changed when he meets a flighty photographer. Along with their eccentric friends and siblings, they learn to love each other not in spite of their faults, but because of them. The musical features lyrics by Ryan Cunningham, and music by Joshua Salzman. The musical premiered off-Broadway in 2006 and The New York Times called it “filled with wit and zest” and an evening of “terrific, refreshing fun!”
Peppermint Creek Co-Artistic Director, Chad Swan-Badgero, had this to say about why the theatre programmed the show this season, “Peppermint Creek is always looking for opportunities to put new voices on our stage, and stories that make us reflect, examine, and laugh at our lives. If a show can do ALL of those things, perfect! I Love You Because is a rare gem of a musical that isn’t well known, and will delight audiences on all fronts.”
PCTC is also excited to be giving director Michele Booher-Purosky her first chance at helming a production. “Michele has carved out a strong and professional career as a stage manager in Lansing over the years, and we were thrilled to find she was interested in directing. It’s an honor to be giving someone a chance to spread their wings and try something new”, said Swan-Badgero.
Director Michele Booher-Purosky had this to say about what drew her to I Love You Because, “I love this show because it's a small cast of extremely talented actors and singers, and that felt like a great place for me to start as a first time director. The show is very funny, yet heartwarming, and it fits Peppermint Creek’s mission to bring new works to the stage, having never been seen or done in our region. I’m thrilled to be “introducing” it to greater Lansing audiences.”
The production will take place at Peppermint Creek’s performance venue, the Miller Performing Arts Center, 6025 Curry Lane, South Lansing MI 48911. The show will run Thursday, April 26 – Sunday, April 29 and Thursday, May 3 – Sunday, May 6, 2018. Show times are Thursday – Saturday at 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. Tickets can be ordered online at http://www.peppermintcreek.org, and are $20 general admission, and $15 for students/seniors 65+.
This production of I Love You Because is being directed by PCTC’s guest director, Michele Booher-Purosky, and music direction is by Angela Schwab.
