9/13-22 - East Lansing Community Theatre to Present Shakespeare’s King Lear
East Lansing Community Theatre will perform William Shakespeare’s King Lear September 13-15 and 20-22, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hannah Community Center’s Albert A. White Theater for the Performing Arts. This production will begin the company’s second season.
Director Dale Wayne Williams describes King Lear as follows:
When the elderly King Lear divides his kingdom between his three daughters, he invokes the very strife he wished to avoid. Cordelia, Lear’s youngest daughter, refuses the terms of the inheritance and is banished to France with the Earl of Kent. Lear’s other daughters, Goneril and Regan, turn their back on their father and each other to gain more power.
With the kingdom in flux, the bastard Edmund wishes to gain legitimacy and take away the lands his brother Edgar will gain from their father, the Earl of Gloucester. As the tragedy unfolds, alliances are forged, friends are betrayed, and death comes for anyone in the warpath. In the end, ten will die. Who will live?
Williams has assembled a talented cast that includes: Mike Stewart, Sarah Smith, Steve Ledyard, Mark Polzin, Blake Weil, Mia Colony, Holly Engler, Chanae Houska, Ann Marie Foley, Kris Vitols, Lynn Vollbrecht, Joe Gusumano, Rebekah Small, Joe Shanahan and Logan Kilpela.
