Creative Dramatics is an initial introduction to the world of acting. Its non-performance structure allows the participant to explore many of the facets of acting without the burden of learning lines, specific rules, etc. Activities focus on movement, pantomime, and voice allowing for participants to develop their imagination and interact with others in an entertaining environment. (5 weeks; 10:00 – 10:45; Fee $35.00)

Fairy Tale Theatre is a class that will use fairy tales as the central focal point. Activities will include developing a character, using the voice, movement, and use of exaggeration. (About the Instructor) – Cheryl Adkins has been acting since she was 10. She has been a part of MMFT for five years and enjoys a variety of roles, challenges, and helping to develop the acting abilities in her own children. During the week, she is a teacher and is excited to blend her two passions in offering this opportunity to the community.

Beginning Actor's Workshop - takes an in-depth look at putting together a scene for presentation.  It will take the participant through much of the acting process from auditioning to giving the final performance. Actors will develop public speaking skills through interaction with others along with developing empathy, using imagination and creativity in an entertaining and learning environment. (Five weeks, 10:00 – 11:30; Fee $70.00)

(About the Instructor) Mike Sobocinski has been performing as an actor for more than 10 years and has been involved in at least 50 projects on stage and screen, mostly as an actor but also including responsibilities with casting, writing, coaching, and assistant directing.  His teaching experience covers a wide range of ages, from K-12 and adult chess instruction through college courses in sociology taught at LCC and MSU.
Acting Exploration - is a loosely structured approach to acting through activities in pantomime, improvisation, storytelling, movement and vocal activities. General ideas about acting will be introduced at this level. This class will allow the participants to build self-esteem and confidence while interacting with others in a fun setting. Acting Exploration from (5 weeks; 10:00 – 10:45; Fee $35.00)

1/8-9 - AUDITIONS for Mid Michigan Family Theatre’s UNHAPPILY EVER AFTER
Monday and Tuesday, January 8 & 9- 6:30-8 pm
2630 Bennett Road in Okemos in the 2/42 Community Church Activities Building
All ages are invited to audition.

A counselor has opened an office to see how various fairy tale characters are getting along. He quickly discovers that nobody has lived “happily ever after” at all! Sleeping Beauty will do nothing buy nap; the Frog Prince refuses to give up his amphibian ways, and nothing will pry Cinderella away from her beloved cinders. The counselor sets about making everything right again, with equally disastrous results. Added to the fractured fairy tale fun are five catch musical numbers, cameo roles for a chorus of fairy tale characters and plenty of silliness for everybody involved.

Counselor - a writer of romances, also a marriage counselor
Ms. Scribe - his secretary
Prince Charming - Cinderella’s husband; a modern young man
Cinderella - a simple soul; loves kitchen work
Stepsister One - an unpleasant sort, cynical
Stepsister Two - another
Stepmother - a clever shrew
Prince Ling - a distraught husband
Sleeping Beauty - does nothing but nap
Pond Princess - a fiery young woman
Frog Prince - can’t forget his days in the garden well
Rumpelstiltskin - a gnome with an identity crisis
Little Bo Peep    - can’t find her sheep
Little Miss Muffett - likes curds and whey
Little Red Riding Hood - not fond of wolves
Snow White - now a blonde
