2/24-3/4 - The Blue Light Players are proud to announce their upcoming production of the musical Oliver! This family-friendly classic is a musical based on the Charles Dickens' novel, Oliver Twist. The musical originated on stage in London’s West End in 1960, and was quickly followed by a long-standing run on Broadway. In 1968, Oliver was made into a very popular movie musical. Since the original production in 1960, there have been numerous revival productions and National tours. Audience members are sure to recognize Oliver’s well known songs, such as: “Where is Love”, “Food, Glorious Food”, “Consider Yourself”, and “Reviewing the Situation”.
The Blue Light Players production of Oliver, features a cast of 30 adults and youth from the greater Lansing area. The title role of Oliver, is being played by Waverly High School Freshman, Samantha Stanton. In preparation for this role, Samantha recently cut off 12 inches of her hair, and preserved it for donation. The rest of the cast is comprised of both Lansing stage veterans and newcomers. Some familiar names may be: Mike Stewart (Fagin), Philip Franke (Artful Dodger), Suzanne MacLaren (Widow Corney) and James Geer (Bumble). The cast also includes 12 youth members, who attend schools in Waverly, Grand Ledge, Holt, Ovid, and Lansing. The production is directed by Helen Hart and Dan Southwell, with music direction by Mary Rodeck, and lighting design by Mike Stewart. Of course, we would be no where without our Stage Manager, Jenna Erbele, and our House/Lighting Manager, Justin Brewer.
Performances of Oliver will take place on February 24-25 and March 3-4 at 7pm in the Albert A. White auditorium in East Lansing.
