RENEGADE THEATRE FESTIVAL 2018 - "Lucky 13” this Thur/Fri/Sat in Old Town

This year, Renegade is all about the new: New Original Works (N.O.W.). Over three nights, see staged readings of 16 plays ranging from 10-minute plays on theme of "Awkward Encounters" to 45-60 minute comedies and dramas. All new from all over the country. And all free!

Come for N.O.W., stay for the Ruckus: Renegade Ruckus, the 24-hour new play challenge culminating with a free performance Saturday 10:30pm at META Collective (718 E Cesar Chavez Ave., Lansing).

NEW ORIGINAL WORKS 2018
There are two performance spaces in The Red Cedar Friends Meeting Hall (1400 Turner, Lansing) so two shows will be performed simultaneously during each time slot.

Tamar: The Two-Gated City

Before her wedding, Young Tamar tries to find out what happened to the aunt for whom she was named. Aunt Tamar exists as a ghost hoping her story will be told so she can rest. When an old servant, Abida, tries to school Young Tamar in her oppressive reality, Young Tamar refuses Abida's lesson and so changes the way Abida sees the world. (60 min.)

On a road trip, it doesn't take long for Natalie and Wes to discover that their idea of a vacation is not simpatico. One wants to talk, the other wants peace. When they meet a motorist stranded at a rest stop, Natalie's need to go on a verbal voyage is suddenly laid on the hapless stranger, both discovering there's nothing like wide open spaces to bring out the fear of isolation. Throw an amphibian into the mix and complications are inevitable. (25 min)
