Grace Falling by Janet Colson is an edgy Cinderella-with-shades-of-Sleeping Beauty tale, with some twisted twists. It centers around Grace, a self-centered teenager in love with her own angst, and her handsome prince, a brooding young atheist.
As if things weren’t hard enough for Grace with her alcohol and drug addictions and a clinically depressed father, along comes her soon-to-be Stepmother, a gospel singer with two perfect teenage kids. Well, perfect other than the eating disorders and identity issues... Everyone has a lot to learn from each other in this unusually blended family as they all try desperately to find a spiritual center in the suburban Midwest. This staged reading is directed by Katie Doyle with an excellent cast, including Michelle Serje as Grace, Adam Sutherland as Jason, Mark Boyd as the Reverend, Gini Larson as Margaret, Kaleel Van Voorhees as Amberley, Dennis Corsi as Bryan, and Gloria Vivalda as the Reader.
