4/16/2013

Benefits Include Priority Seating and Up To 30% Off

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Wharton Center announces the 2013-2014 Season – and the best way to take advantage of it is by becoming a Wharton Center subscriber.
Subscribers get the most benefits, including huge discounts and access to the best seats in the house before they go on sale to the general public. The more you choose, the more you save – up to 30% off public ticket prices! In addition, subscribers receive special offers throughout the season and can take advantage of special incentives, including a patron discount card for great offers at local retailers and restaurants.

Wharton Center is energizing the season with new ways to engage all our audiences and heighten the learning experience. We know patrons love our pre- and post-show talks, so we’ve refined them even more. These special engagement opportunities include such pre-show events as  Spotlight Dinners (formerly Preview Dinners), where patrons can enjoy a buffet dinner and engage with knowledgeable guest speakers or members of the performance company of selected shows, andInsight Previews (formerly Preview Lectures), free informative talks presented by topic experts who provide unique insights into the performance. Wharton Center is also adding After Chats following select performances: free, post-show conversations with members of a touring company. And this season, we are also starting a new social group of active professionals and creative minds called Next Gen @ Wharton Center.  It’s being designed to connect members with new and existing friends and to engage with Wharton Center in innovative and unique ways, including behind-the-scenes events, artist meet-ups and one-of-a-kind social opportunities.
On top of this, Wharton Center’s 2013-2014 Season offers the best of touring Broadway and an amazing lineup of performing arts events.  It all starts in September with multi-Grammy winner Diana Krall, who just released a new album “Glad Rag Doll,” followed in October by the first Broadway musical of the season — and a Wharton Center premiere — FLASHDANCE-The Musical. Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, the pop culture phenomenon of the film Flashdance is now live on stage. TheMSU Federal Credit Union Broadway at Wharton Center Series contains more Wharton Center
premieres, including: GHOST The Musical, based on the Oscar-winning movie of the same name, and the five-time Tony Award-winning PETER AND THE STARCATCHER.
The smash hit DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST takes the stage in early 2014 followed by THE GERSHWIN’S PORGY AND BESS.  Then, nine-time Tony Award-winning THE BOOK OF MORMON wraps up the season in June.  On top of this stellar Broadway lineup, add this year’s special Broadway event – one of the most requested Broadway shows – MAMMA  MIA! at Wharton Center for three days in November.

The 2013-2014 Season wouldn’t be complete without a lineup of world-renowned performing artists, such as Johnny Mathis, cellist Yo-Yo Ma with Kathryn Stott, The St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and dance phenomenon Pilobolus.

The MSU Federal Credit Union Institute for Arts & Creativity at Wharton Center
enriches lives by strengthening the value of the arts in everyday life through participatory, lifelong learning programs. This season there will be plenty such programs, including Artists-in-Residence programs, Take It From The Top, the Young Playwrights Festival, the Act One School and Family Series performances, and much more.  There is an amazing selection of theatre and educational opportunities for the entire family. In November, Wharton Center presents THE SHAPE OF A GIRL, a play by Joan Macleod that examines the frightening realities of teenage bullying and a young woman’s battle with inaction. Other highlights include Theatreworks USA’s The Teacher from the Black Lagoon & Other Story Books and a host of other superstars in all performing arts genres including jazz, classical and world music, dance, and contemporary variety.

Several season packages are available, offering tremendous value.  To become a MSU Federal Credit Union Broadway at Wharton Center subscriber, purchase five shows from the Broadway selection - FLASHDANCE, GHOST, PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, PORGY AND BESS and THE BOOK OF MORMON - at a savings of up to 30% off. In addition, you can save up to 30% off MAMMA MIA! by adding it to your order.  On top of that, you can also receive 30% off any Performing Arts Series events you include, and 10% off additional tickets purchased throughout the season (limitations apply).

To become a Performing Arts Series Subscriber, order at least four shows from the vast selection of theatre, classical music, dance, jazz, variety, and world music & dance to receive 10% off…or select at least five shows, and receive a 30% discount. That’s not all, you can also save up to 30% off all Broadway Series performances and Special Events when added to your order.  Plus save 10% off additional Broadway and Performing Arts Series tickets you purchase throughout the season (limitations apply).

Subscribers also save by purchasing five or more events from the Act One Family Series. Or maybe you are interested in the World View Lecture Series featuring authors Steven Pinker, Tony Kushner and Dr. Leana Wen, which subscribers can purchase for only $30.

Individual tickets (non-subscribers; non-group) to most shows will go on sale at a date to be announced in August.
