On Sunday, December 3 from Noon to 8pm, twelve acts featuring over 40 participants, will entertain and laugh with audiences. All while raising money to buy presents for children in foster care.
As part of Tori Shares Christmas, performers, musicians, poets and improv arts will converge on The Avenue Café, 2021 E. Michigan Ave. Lansing, MI, to raise their voices in music and laughter.
Games and crafts will also be available to encourage families to come out and play. Guests are invited to stop by throughout the day or stay and join us for the entire event. Admission is free, but a donation of $10 is suggested. For more information call 517.775.4246 or visit the facebook event page.
Second City alumnus and stand-up comedian Rico Bruce Wade will be doing improv games with kids from 5-6pm. After which the children will take the stage and demonstrate their improvisation skills.
The community is invited to join in the opening and closing acts and raise their voices in song. At noon everyone is encouraged to join in a collection of songs from the musical Annie, including: A Hard Knock Life, Tomorrow & Little Girls. At 7:45 pm Riverwalk Theatre’s cast of Rent will lead everyone in singing Seasons of Love.
“Tori Shares Christmas” was created by the family of Victoria “Tori” Croff as a tribute to the eight year old who drowned in 2011. “When she passed, we focused on the loss,” observes Tori’s father Jeff Croff. “This event allows us to instead focus on laughter, silliness and giving; three things she embodied for us. The format also takes a page from the Little Drummer Boy as artists offer their talents as a way to entertain and in turn brings gifts to local children. ” Past events have purchased hundreds of gifts for children in foster care.
