When I talked to her Monday (and delivered the card many of you signed for her at the Barneys) she was able to chat, and there was optimism about going home that day — but instead, she took a turn for the worse. She went into Hospice last night, and now she's gone. Hard to believe...
Winifred was a mega force in local theatre forEVer, it seems, certainly well before I got involved in 1972. She was very active at Lansing Civic Players, and she and Wes helped Bee and Karl Vary start the Community Circle Players (Okemos Barn/Riverwalk Theatre.) She has been Starlight Dinner Theatre's lucky charm, appearing in all eight seasons of that theatre's existence. She's also performed at the Barn and Riverwalk, plus the New Vic Supper Theatre in Flint, Eaton Rapids Theatre and Coventry Players in Mason. She retired from WILX-TV and had a post-retirement career as a tour director for Rail America and Tour Connection.
Matt Ottinger's wonderful theatre database site has a list of her past 20 years' shows, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. I don't know who has the LCP archives, but I'm sure it's full of Winifred. She was active as an actor and as a director.
