The Blue Light Players are pleased to announce the The Music Man

2/14/2015

2/20-21 & 27-28 - The Blue Light Players are pleased to announce that The Music Man is coming VERY soon to a theater near you!! The production will take place at 7pm on February 20, 21, 27, and 28 at the Albert A. White Auditorium in East Lansing. The Music Man is a well-known, family friendly musical which became a hit on Broadway in 1957, winning 5 Tony Awards. The Music Man tells the story of a con man named Harold Hill who poses as a band leader and sells musical instruments and uniforms to a small town in rural Iowa, with the promises of forming a children's band. However, Harold Hill is no band leader and he plans to skip town after collecting money from the naïve townspeople. Little does he realize, the town's librarian and local piano teacher, Marian, will see through his con game. Yet, in a twist of fate, Harold and Marian fall in love, when Harold helps Marian's little brother overcome his shyness and lisp. Audience members are sure to recognize well-known songs from this musical, such as "76 Trombones", "Goodnight My Someone", and "Gary Indiana”.

The 38 cast members in this production range in age from 10-50+ and all live in the greater Lansing area. Audience members may recognize Lansing stage veterans: Rachel Mender (Eulalie Shinn), Amanda Kennedy (Ethel Toffelmeir), Jeff Kennedy (Mayor Shinn), John Hart Franke (Harold Hill), Elizabeth Johnson (Mrs. Paroo) and Jerry “Rocky” Heuft (Constable/Conductor). The Blue Light Players are also pleased to introduce stage veteran, but Lansing newcomer, Paula Sheynerman as Marian Paroo. With a total of 38 cast members, we’d love to name them all, but we are sure audiences will recognize many other names and faces in this production.
The Blue Light Players are a non-profit theater company which was formed in 2005. Proceeds from their productions are used to support the families of fallen and critically injured Michigan police officers. This year's production of The Music Man is dedicated to Ingham County Deputy Grant Whitaker who lost his life in the line of duty in December 2014 and to Michigan State Police Trooper Jeffrey Werda who lost his life in the line of duty in April 2011.

The Music Man will be performed at the Albert A. White Auditorium in the Hannah Center at 819 Abbot Rd. in East Lansing at 7pm on February 20, 21, 27, and 28. Tickets may be purchased online at: www.bluelightplayers.com or by calling the Box Office at 517-490-4567or at the door. Tickets are $15/each and all seats are reserved seating. Shook Crew Needed

1/18/2014

The Blue Light Players (bluelightplayers.com) are producing the musical All Shook Up on February 21, 22, and 23 at the Hannah Center in East Lansing. We have a great cast and we can't wait to share the show with our audience. However, we are in need of technical/backstage assistance. We are looking for 3 individuals for our backstage running crew. The dates and times they would be needed are:

Sunday, February 16th: 2pm-11pm (tech rehearsal)
Tuesday, Feburary 18th: 6pm-11pm (tech/dress)
Thursday, February 20th: 6pm-11pm (dress rehearsal)
Friday, February 21st: 5pm-end of show (7pm curtain)
Saturday, February 22nd: 5pm-end of show (7pm curtain)
Sunday February 23rd: 2pm-end of show (4pm curtain)

The running crew would not be responsible for heavy lifting, as our set pieces are minimal and the larger pieces are on rollers. We also have tech crew in place to handle those pieces.

Anyone who is interested in joining our crew may send an email to: [email protected] or contact Dan Southwell at: 517-490-4567. Thank you for your help!

BLP registrations open for K-9th Broadway Revue

7/22/2013

The Blue Light Players are currently taking registrations for their K-9th grade troupes who will appear in our Broadway Revue (show date: Saturday, December 7th, 7pm at Everett HS Auditorium)  Interested parties may send an email to: [email protected] or call 517-282-4699.  There are no auditions required for our Broadway Revue troupes.

The Broadway Revue rehearses once a week at South Church in Delta Township on Tuesday evenings.  We have one dress rehearsal and performance at the actual venue.  The church location seems to be very popular for our younger troupes!

4/21 - 5/19 - Blue Light Players offers musical theater classes this spring

4/9/2013

Location: Delta Enrichment Center Dance Room, 4538 Elizabeth Rd., Delta Township

Sundays: April 21, 28, May 5, 12, 19 (5 weeks)

4pm-5pm Triple Threat Bootcamp (Ages 6-9) Cost: $40
Fundamental Vocal, Theatre and Dance Training for the Musical Theatre performer, all wrapped into a 1 hour session. Students have the opportunity to work on all 3 triple-threat disciplines; studying musical theatre songs, choreography, and acting. Students who want to study musical theatre are strongly encouraged to take both a Triple Threat AND dance training in technique, tap and jazz. These dance classes will be offered separately. Any young person who aspires to a career or creative outlet in musical theater (school performances) needs training in all 3 components.
5pm-6pm Dance Technique (Ages 8+) Cost: $40

This 1 hour class is strongly recommended for Triple Threat performers over the age of 8 and performers at all dance levels. Dance technique offers the fundamental dance training to ensure students become strong dancers, reaching their physical potential and avoiding injury with proper technique.Shh….we won’t say it too loudly, but we will be teaching the underlying fundamental ballet technique which is required for all forms of dance. However, the focus will be on proper body placements, terminology and preparing a solid foundation for all dance forms. This class will focus on both ballet and musical theater jazz fundamentals to ensure our performers are learning proper body placements and terminology required in order to succeed in musical theater.

6pm-8pm
Triple Threat Bootcamp (Ages 10-14) Cost: $80
This course will cover the same topics as the Bootcamp for our younger students. However, this class will be expanded to 2 hours in length in order to offer more in-depth and comprehensive training. Once again, students enrolling in this class are strongly encouraged to enroll in Dance Technique and our other dance class offerings.

Tuesdays: April 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21, 28 (6 weeks)

5pm-6pm Tap for Musical Theater (ages 8+) Cost: $45
This class will allow students to begin learning the basic tap steps and terminology associated with tap in musical theater. Many dance studios are focusing more on a rhythm based tap and this class will focus on tap terminology and steps as they relate to musical theater.

Additional Information:

We require a minimum enrollment of 4 students for each of these classes to be held. We will limit the enrollment in each class to 10 students in order to ensure as much individualized attention as possible.
We will offer a continuation of these classes during the summer session and we will also be adding acting and group voice classes. Private lessons are available during both the spring and summer. If all goes well with our scheduling of facilities, we are planning to hold a Musical Theater Camp during the summer.
For more information or to receive a class flyer or an enrollment form, please send an email to: [email protected]  or call 517-282-4699

BLP presents Chicago! One Weekend Only!

3/1/2013

3/1-2  -  Okay -- trying to keep all "links" alive in the info below, because Chicago really IS a "big show" for the Blue Light Players - and only THREE performances! We are seeing it at 2pm Saturday, so my "review" won't have time to reach many. But having seen two of this group's previous "youth" variety shows (with three age-groups), I've been particularly impressed with the "senior" group which is now tackling a full length musical. Check out the Youtube video which is quite polished for being shot so early in the process. I have high expectations for this show - which is one of those special shows EVeryone should see at least once in their lifetime!

CHICAGO, The Musical is coming to a stage near you the first weekend in March!  This production is being brought to the Lansing area by the Blue Light Players.  You won’t want to miss this theatrical masterpiece which has thrilled audiences with it fabulous array of musical and dance acts and its satirical plot line since it first opened on Broadway in 1975.  The revival production in 1996 was the winner of six Tony awards, more than any other revival in the history of Broadway.
